GV II

Range of 14 Bedehouses. 1847-1860. By Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin for RW Sibthorp, executed by G Myers. Brick with stone dressings and plain tile roofs and paired octagonal coped ridge stacks, one of each pair removed, plus single gable and side wall stacks. Tudor Revival style.
EXTERIOR: chamfered plinth, dentilled eaves, coped gables with
crosses. Windows are mullioned casements with leaded glazing,
2 and 3 lights. Doors have four-centred arched heads with
inscriptions, and shields in the spandrels. Each is flanked by
an ogee headed shoe scraper. Single storey, P-shaped layout.
East range has 7 dwellings with a 3-light and a 2-light window
between each pair of doors. At the south end, an L-plan
cottage with a gabled datestone above the northern 3-light
window. At the north end, an angle buttressed wing with a
figure-carved and inscribed double gabled datestone above the
3-light east window.
South side has a covered passage, 5 bays, with buttresses and
2-light windows, and to right, a segmental pointed doorway.
West end has a doorway and two 3-light windows.
North side has 7 windows alternating with 5 doors. Projecting
east gable has a 3-light window, and above it, a gabled
inscribed datestone.
INTERIORS have inscribed Gothic fireplaces.
