main entrance to Municipal Offices)

War memorial. Erected 1907. Bronze statue of soldier in pith
helmet with downcast gaze and reversed rifle. High stone
plinth with names and explanatory material in panels and on
steps. Statue carved by RL Boulton and Sons of Cheltenham and
cast by AB Burton of Thames Ditton.
The Promenade was laid out in 1818 as a tree-lined avenue
connecting the Colonnade in the High Street to the Sherbourne
Spa (on the site of the Queen's Hotel (qv)).
