SOUTHGATE STREET 1. 1833 (West Side) No 14 (Southgate Hotel) SU 4729 SE 5/250 24.3.50. II* GV 2. C18 early. Rain water head with date 1715. 3 storeys and basement. Red brick walls and moulded brick cornice below parapet. Bands. 5 windows with segmental heads and flush wooden frames. Centre 1st floor window with moulded and cut brick Tuscan pilasters and bowed rudiment. Rusticated doorway with portico-wooden Doric columns and pilasters - fanlight over door, six-panel door with flush panels. Parapet, roof not visible. Rear Elevation three storeys, bands. Five windows, some blank, original sashes in elliptical heads. Central Roman Doric porch, glazed door. Parapet with band, roof not visible. North extension to above. Built 1935. 2 storeys, brick, in same style as Hotel. Nos 2 to 14 (even) form a group.
