Details
SOCKBRIDGE AND TIRRIL SOCKBRIDGE NY 52 NW 4/185 Sockbridge Hall (formerly listed with former gatehouse (q.v.) 6.2.68
GV II Farmhouse. Probably mid to late C16, with C17 and C18 additions. Plastered stone with slate roof, some exposed ashlar and rubble to east elevation. Coped gables, that to south is crow stepped with roll-moulded coping. West elevation of 2 storeys and 4 irregular bays. Hollow-chamfered-mullioned windows. 1st bay of ground floor has 3-light window with transom, continuous label mould to 1st 2 bays but 2nd bay has window replaced by entrance with architrave and half-glazed door; 3rd bay has casement. 1st floor has 3-light transomed window to 1st bay, 2-light small window to 2nd bay and 3-light window to 3rd bay. 4th bay has plain entrance. Gable-end stack has large base and cornice; octagonal cross-axial stack on square base and with brattished cornice; end lateral stack with set-offs. South gable-end has 3-light windows, that to 1st floor with transom and label. East elevation has outshut under catslide roof, one coped end, and lean-to outshut to right, with flat roofed projecting to right. 1st bay has window of 3 round-headed lights, sunk spandrels and label mould; similar window to 1st floor is taller, Tudor-headed lights, mostly blocked, with casement. 2 casement windows and 3 windows in pointed arches to outshuts. Entrance to return of outshut. Brick lateral stack. Entrance to 1st bay now concealed by outshut has sunk triangular head in moulded reveals. North gable end has 2-light single-chamfered-mullioned window and 2 small lights. Interior has large segmental-arched fireplace; 2 doors have chamfered reveals, one with shoulder to one side, one with corbel above; C17 balusters to stair; lst floor has corbels and room has C17 panelling, 3 sides moulded, cupboards with cock's head hinges, fireplace renewed.
