2. Parish Church. C13 re-built and enlarged 1857-64 by John Raphael Brandon in Gothic Revival style. Timber south porch added 1867. Only part of original remaining is dressed Old Totternhoe Stone to end of chancel. Remainder squared, snecked rubble. Clay plain tile roof, steep pitch with gable parapets. Moulded string below cills. Octagonal broach spire to north adjoining chancel. With deep moulded, revealed, arched openings below cornice. Projecting gable to north transept. Interior: plain aisled nave, five bays with double aisle to north, modern dormers in nave roof. Stained glass by O'Connor 1860-65. Coat of Arms of Charles II in wood, dated 1683 over south door. Monuments: in chancel, south wall a brass plaque to Lady Katherine Berkeley 1559. Square bronze plaque in marble surround withbustabove to Mary Wheeler 1626. North wall - brass plaque in granite surround with pediment to Richard Hanbery 1593. Bronze plaque in alabaster frame to Christopher Barker, printer to Elizabeth I 1599. Marble tablet with cornice moulding and brackets to Christopher Arnold 1758. Flanking arches to vestry, a pair Cl7 oral marble plaques with busts over and cartouches, to John Wheeler 1636 and Hanbery Wheeler 1633. VCH 111 p.253.
