GV II
House in row, formerly two, now part of Rising Sun Hotel (qv).
Probably C17 in origin but heightened and altered in C19.
Rendered, concrete tile roof.
2 storeys and attic; 3-window range, all 2-light casements
with a horizontal bar, and to slate cills. The ground floor
has a C20 door between the first 2 windows, and a further
window to the right, possibly a former door. The right gable,
partly above the adjoining property, has a small 2-light
casement, and a cropped stack. The rear has a door under a
gabled dormer roof at first floor, opening to the garden
level.
INTERIOR, partly inspected, revealed no items of special
interest.
The property is one of a series stepped up the steep slope of
the hill. The small windows suggest early provenance, and a
former steep roof with thatch seems to have been replaced with
a later structure giving extra height to the attic space, and
a large plain wall above the first-floor windows; a line in
the wall plane is discernible at the previous eaves level.
