2. Flint and stone church of early C12 origin. The nave is of the early C12. In the late C13 the nave was extended and the north aisle added (circa 1280), with quatrefoil piers to the nave arcade. The north chapel was added in circa 1340 and the chancel was rebuilt in the C15. The south porch was added in the C15. The roof of the north aisle is dated 1534 in one of the traceried spandrels of the braces and the roof of the north chapel is of the C16. In 1740 the west tower was destroyed by lightning and was rebuilt, but this later tower was demolished in 1883. There is some C19 restoration and rebuilding of the chancel and west wall. The C12 south doorway has 2 orders of columns, some with spiral carved ornamentation. There are notable late C14 screens between the chancel and nave and north chapel. The north aisle has a fine brass of Sir John de Wantone (d. 1347) and his wife Ellen. Graded for its C12 and C13 architractural features and the C14 screens. (RCHM 1).
