Details

SS 90 SW CADBURY 8/42 Mare headstone about 10 metres - south east of the chancel of the Church of St Michael and All Angels GV II Headstone. Early Cl9. Stone. The headstone has a cranked head and an inscription commemorating John Mare, "late soldier in his majesty's first or royal dragoons and wounded at Waterloo". The head is carved with a laurel wreath and cutlass in relief. An interesting example of military trophies used to decorate a modest headstone.
