Pair of attached houses, probably originally one house. Circa mid to late C17, with C19 alterations. Red brick in English, random and Flemish bonds with moulded plinth strings and brick modillion eaves. Pantile roof with moulded brick corbels to gable ends. Brick gable end and axial stacks. Plan: L-shaped on plan. 3-room plan front range with wing at rear of right hand room. No 17 occupies 2 left rooms and No 19 occupies right hand front and rear rooms.
It was probably in C19 when the house was subdivided into 2 cottages then the first floor at
the right hand (N) end was partly rebuilt. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3:2 window E front with heavy moulded brick stringcourse at first floor level, the right hand 2 bays gabled. C19 2 and 3-light wooden mullion windows with metal casements with small panes, in cambered arch openings. Doorways at centre and on right with cambered arches and panelled and glazed doors, that on right with open wooden lattice porch with tented canopy. Moulded brick stringcourse in S gable end and at first floor at rear. On left at rear of No 17 on first floor C17 3-light ovolo moulded wood mullion window.
Interior. Only interior of No 17 inspected. Smaller left and larger right hand room have chamfered cross-beams with hollow step stops at one end, unchamfered joists and blocked fireplaces. Tie-beam exposed on first floor but roof structure above replaced in C20.
Note: Said to have originally been called Howard's Manor.
