Details
TYTHBY TYTHBY VILLAGE SK63NE 1/133 Church of the Holy Trinity (formerly 1.12.65 listed as Church of St Peter) GV I Church. C14 with C18 and C19 alterations. Mainly thinly-coursed rubble with quoins, with some deeply-coursed later work. Lead roofs except slate north aisle roof and tower roof. Two-bay nave with C19 north aisle, lean-to south aisle with porch, 2-bay chancel, west tower. The south aisle has a single large C18 cambered-headed window to its west, south and east sides, each with leaded glazing. 2-light chancel windows (north and south) with square heads and Perpendicular tracery and an arched doorway on the south side. 3-light C19, arched, east window with intersecting tracery. The west tower has an C18 window as south aisle. The tower has a late C19 brick upper part with small lancets and a hipped slate roof. Interior: C14, 2-bay, double-chamfered south arcade. C19, 2-bay north arcade. Georgian furnishings: raking rear gallery with panelled front supported on a central brick pier which goes through to the roof and is panelled; combined,panelled pulpit and reading desk; chancel rail with slender turned balusters; panelled box pews to south and squire's pew. Bench with poppyhead. Octagonal font with inscription on the panels: T.S.R.D. 1.6.6.2. This may be a re-carved medieval font. N Pevsner. The Buildings of England, 1979.
