Thetford mechanics' institute, then public library, wine bar at time of listing 1887. Gault brick under slate roof. One storey. Five bays to Market Place, each bay separated by Tuscan pilasters or columns of rendered brick. The columns frame the central half-glazed double-leaf doors under a round arch. Two round-headed C20 plate-glass windows right and left. Rendered entablature and parapet. Tall central three bay gable with a recessed panel containing a cartouche flanked by a niche right and left. Gabled roofs. To right is a two bay link attaching to Guildhall (qv) with a round-headed sash with 6/6 glazing bars and a round-headed doorway.
