SD 68 NW MIDDLETON A683 (East side)
13/147 Outbuilding adjoining 21.11.52 north-east angle of Middleton Hall and adjoining wall (q.v.)

Extension to north wing of Middleton Hall, now separate outbuilding. Early to mid C15. Stone rubble with dressed quoins, stone slate roof. 2 storeys. Eaves raised. South elevation has large pointed entrance, now blocked with inserted window, pitching hole above. North elevation has pitching hole. East gable end has cusped round-headed light over C20 attached shed. Short length of wall attached to this end has short return approx. level with south-east wing of hall, believed to be part of curtain wall, but this is not certain. Small recess for well on south side of wall is now blocked. West gable end has blocked 1st floor entrance and signs of cruck framed roof truss. Interior has heavy beam and flat joists. Roof truss has cambered chamfered tie beam with struts. See RCHM Invesntory: Westmorland.
