TG 0922 REEPHAM BACK STREET (south) 7/48 The Cardinals Hat.
GV II
House with C16 jettied timber frame section, extended in the early C17 in diapered brickwork, with rear late C17 double pile extension, all of 2 storeys. The brick was rendered and colourwashed circa 1975. The left hand wing on rendered flint plinth is close studded, with circa 1975 windows in original openings at ground and first floor levels. Short straight arch braces near eaves, and left hand end first floor jetty end post in 2 sections. In right hand section, C20 panelled door and casement windows. Rear wings have wrought iron casement windows and brick parapet gables with moulded brick kneelers. C20 gable stack on right hand gable. Closely spaced joists at first floor level in timber framed section bearing on axial beam with swept stops. Central chimney stack with splayed recesses, the opening arches remodelled in circa 1975. Ceiling ties at first floor with C18 timber knees. Staircase re-built with C17 balustrade with turned balusters, moulded handrails and newels with acorn finials in oak. C.A. HEWETT.
