About 1920, by I F Shellard. A 26 ft high monucent standing a little to the south
of the entrance gates. Granite cenotaph protected by a domed baldachino of ashlar
blocks, the whole standing on a stepped plinth. The entablature supporting the
dome is carried by Doric columns. Names of the dead are given in letters on the
cenotaph. The base is inscribed:- "The Great War 1914-1918. In Grateful Memory
of Taunton's Glorious Dead", and to rear:- "Our Land Inviolate, Your Monument".

The listed buildings in Vivary Park and Mount Street form a group together with
the School, Unitarian Chapel, the Lawn and Mary Street House in Mary Street.
Wilton House in Hammets Walk, and Nos 1 to 14 (consec) Upper High Street.
