NORTHCOURT
Christ Church
(Formerly listed as Tithe Barn)
19.1.51
II
Medieval in origin, built by Abingdon Abbey, circa 1270. Rubble
walls, with ashlar quoins and deep interior splays to windows. The
west exterior wall is buttressed and to the north end is an ashlar
stone gabled porch with a stone chamfered segmental headed doorway,
stone coping, angle buttresses and remains of an ancient stone slate
roof. Tiled roof, mostly renewed, supported on six bays of an arch-
brace tie bean roof, probably of C16 origin. Much altered when barn
was converted for use as a church in 1961, and modern extensions
added on the east.
