II

Two houses, built as one in mid C17. 3-cell plan. One storey and attics.
Timber-framed and plastered. Thatched roof with two C19 eyebrow casement
dormers. An axial chimney to right with shaft rebuilt in C19 red brick; a
further C19 chimney to left. Various C19 and C20 casements. Pendle Cottage
has a C20 lean-to pantiled porch with boarded entrance door. Appleton has a
gabled concrete tiled porch. C17 primary-braced studding and clasped-purlin
roof at Pendle Cottage; a reused wall-plate has a C14 splayed scarf joint.
Interior of Appleton not examined.
