Pontins Holiday Village, Southport, Merseyside
This £2.5 million, 700 chalet holiday development was built in 1970 at the height of the British Holiday Camp industry. The 'Hotel Pontinental' opened in Torremelinos just one year later. Although many camps have since closed in the face of stiff competition from cheap package holidays abroad, Southport remains part of the Pontins empire and continues to operate as a holiday camp.
