II

Church. 1870-71, porch tower added 1886-87, transepts and
vestries added and chancel rebuilt 1907. By TD Barry and Sons.
Coursed sandstone rubble, slate roof in blue and purple bands.
STYLE: Decorated.
PLAN: nave with north and south aisles, porch tower added in
front of south aisle. North and south transepts, chancel with
north and south vestries.
EXTERIOR: the square 3-stage tower, with angle buttresses,
north-west vice, pierced parapet with corner gargoyles and
crocketed pinnacles, has a 2-centred arched south doorway, a
cusped lancet to the second stage and 2-centred arched 2-light
belfry windows with stone louvres.
The low lean-to aisles have short 2-centred arched 2-light
windows with cusped lights and square quatrefoil tracery in
the heads, and hoodmoulds with figured stops.
The transepts have tall 2-centred arched 3-light traceried
windows.
The nave has a clerestory of pointed quatrefoils, and a large
2-centred arched 4-light west window with elaborate tracery.
The chancel has a similar 5-light window.
INTERIOR: 6-bay arcades of double-chamfered 2-centred arches
on polished columns with carved capitals; good carved reredos
and organ case.
