Milestone. c.1742 for Wadesmill Turnpike Trust.Iron plate affixed c.1804, possibly to design of McAdam. White freestone with cast iron front plate. A low square pillar about 400mm square and 1/2 m high, partly buried. Segmental head to iron plate with raised edge bead. Raised lettering with first word of inscription in an arc; 'LONDON 35/ BUNTINGFORD 4 /ROYSTON 3'. London Road is the Roman Ermine Street. (W.Branch Johnson Industrial Archaeology of Hertfordshire, 1970, pp, 109-110, 187.
