Description

A series of one hundred and fifteen (115) digital colour photographs showing sports and recreation sites in Birmingham, Dudley and Sandwell.

All of the photographs were taken by Simon Inglis. Around half of the photographs were published in 'Played in Birmingham' (2006) by Steve Beauchampe and Simon Inglis, while 4 of the photographs were published in 'Great Lengths: The Indoor Historic Swimming Pools of Britain' (2009) by Ian Gordon and Simon Inglis.

The sites photographed include billiard halls, cricket grounds, fives courts, tennis clubs, boating lakes, stadiums, and pavilions.

There is a large set of 47 photographs of Victorian and early 20th century public swimming baths: Moseley Road Baths; Nechells Baths; Small Heath Library & Baths; Tiverton Road Baths, Selly Oak; Sparkhill Baths; Grove Lane Baths, Handsworth; and the Rolfe Street Baths after restoration at Black Country Living Museum, Dudley.

Other sites of interest include the award-winning Hall Green Greyhound Stadium and the site of the first lawn tennis match at 8 Ampton Road, Edgbaston.
