The Disposal of Heritage Assets
Guidance note for government departments and non-departmental public bodies
This guidance note for government departments was issued by English Heritage in May 2010 with the joint endorsement of the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the Office of Government Commerce (OGC), replacing an earlier version issued by DCMS in 1999. Its purpose is to ensure that proper account is taken of the heritage values associated with any surplus land.
The guidance applies across central government, including departments, executive agencies and the non-departmental public bodies for which they are responsible. Although not mandatory beyond central government, it provides the elements of best practice for the public sector as a whole, including local authorities, health trusts, public corporations and the police.
