Contract type: Temporary

Do you have a passion for archaeology and the built environment? Are you interested in a career in Archives, and in gaining some experience working in the heritage sector?
The Historic England Archive is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Cataloguing team, creating catalogue records for radiocarbon and dendrochronology files created by the organisation`s Scientific Dating team. This six month post, based at our offices in Swindon, will add information to our cataloguing database, allowing researchers to access information held within the files.
You`ll need to have some experience of working in an office, archive, library or similar environment, and of transcribing information from documents and spreadsheets. You`ll need to work well to deadlines, and be accurate with good attention to detail.
This post will also require you to use our in-house mapping system to identify buildings and sites on maps from different periods, so a familiarity with and interest in map reading and geography would be beneficial. An ability to work well as part of a team is crucial - you`ll be working with other teams within the Archive to ensure that the original documents are handled appropriately, and to adhere to existing standards.
In return, you will gain experience working in a large Archive, and for a national organisation. You`ll also receive a generous annual leave allowance, and a competitive pension. Historic England operates with flexible working hours, helping you to create a good work/life balance.
