The Terrace, St Austell, Cornwall

This terrace of 5 sea captains' houses was built to a plan in 1821 and has a colonnade along the front. Each house had 2 front rooms and shallower back rooms. The terrace was built in a commanding position overlooking the harbour. St Austell harbour was important for the local china clay industry. Another matching terrace was planned but never built.
