T T Nethercoat And Co, The Quay, Burnham On Crouch, Essex

The Splicing Room at T T Nethercoat and Co's East Works in Burnham on Crouch, with seated men making rope handles. Nethercoat and Co were chandlers and sailmakers by trade, but during the First World War their skills were turned to the war effort, in this photograph making rope handles for ammunition carriers. This photograph was commissioned by Nethercoat and Co. The Bedford Lemere daybook entry also records a reference to 'R Terrell & Company', but this company cannot be traced at present.
