Rashleigh Almshouses, Polmear Hill, St Austell, Cornwall

This row of 1 room almshouses was built around 1800 by William Rashleigh who was Sheriff of Cornwall. The original four cottages were extended in the early 19th century by three more cottages. In 1855 a small hospital block was built at right angles at the right hand end. It had three rooms [wards] on the ground floor and accommodation for a matron above. The buildings were restored in 1977-8 and the seven almshouses were converted to three cottages with extensions at the back.
