Kitchen in a Howard House, Beech Avenue, Swindon, Wiltshire

Prefabricated housing was made to 11 designs between 1944 and 1948 as part of the Temporary Housing Programme to relieve the post war housing shortage. This picture from 1947 shows the kitchen in one of the houses in Swindon. Some of the housing proved not to be particularly temporary. This house is still standing today (2014) on Beech Avenue, in the Pinehurst area of Swindon.
