Constable Mausoleum, Halsham, East Riding of Yorkshire

This family Mausoleum dates from 1792-1802. It was designed by Thomas Atkinson of York and completed by his son John, for Sir Edward Constable. It contains a number of inscribed tablets to 18th century and later members of the Constable family. One tablet is inscribed: 'Bones of the Ancestors of the Family of CONSTABLE Collected in The Old Vault of the Family adjoining the Church of Halsham and transferred to the MAUSOLEUM on the 23rd of August 1802'. The mausoleum is set on circular platform (possibly the site of a prehistoric burial mound) and approached by an avenue of yew trees.
