Christonbank Lime Works, Embleton, Northumberland

This pair of limekilns were built in the early 1800s. They were improved in the late 1800s. By lighting fires in these kilns and adding crushed limestone, lime was produced. It was used as fertilizer in the fields. They are an impressive well preserved example of this type of rural industry.
