Ceiling of the lantern, Ely Cathedral, Cambridgeshire

In 1322, the Norman crossing tower of Ely Cathedral collapsed. In its place was built a highly individual 'lantern' of timber and lead with large stained glass windows. At its centre is a figure of Christ.
