Carnegie Public Library, St James Street, Accrington, Lancashire

This Public Library was built in 1906-8 by W.J. Newton. Inside is a large stairlight with stained glass in an Art Nouveau style, with lettering stating "KNOWLEDGE IS POWER", "A LIGHT TO GUIDE" and other inscriptions. It also incorporates the Accrington Corporation Coat of Arms with the motto "INDUSTRY AND PRUDENCE CONQUER".
