Brick Kiln, Blue Anchor, Somerset

This brick kiln was built in the early 19th century. It is thought to have been in use from the 1830's until the 1870's. This is when the large scale production of bricks in Bridgwater made small brickyards uneconomic. There had been little brick making in West Somerset until the latter part of the 19th century. This is the only example of an updraught brick kiln known to survive in the county.
