Boulby Barns Cottage, Boulby Bank, Loftus, Redcar and Cleveland

This pair of alum workers' cottages dates from the mid 17th century. They are now one house. The alum works at Boulby was founded in 1615. Alum is a mineral used to improve the strength and permanency of colour when dyeing cloth.
