Barney Brickyard, Norfolk

Brickwork was used for prestigious buildings from the 16th century but became common for all types of building in Britain in the 19th century. These men are transporting unfired, or 'green', bricks along a wooden track to the kiln for firing. Find out more about brick making in our Teachers' Kit - Brick Making.
