Anne Darwin, Down House, Downe, Greater London
A photograph of Anne Elizabeth Darwin ( Annie ) at Down House in 1849. She was Charles' first daughter and born in 1841, so around 8 years old when this photograph was taken. Sadly she died only a short time later, in 1851, probably from tuberculosis. Her parents Charles and Emma Darwin were devastated by her death.
