An Outside View, Portchester Castle, Portchester, Hampshire

This engraving was drawn in 1720. It has the caption: 'An outside view of Portchester Castle, Hampshire. Dedicated to the Officers of the Militia. Engraved from a drawing taken on the spot by an Officer'. It shows us how the castle looked at this time with soil up against the base of the keep and more of the moat still intact. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2012). Find out more.
