Abbey Church, Milton Abbas, Dorset
Milton Abbey was founded about 935 by King Athelstan. The Norman church was destroyed by fire in 1309. The Abbey Church of Saint Mary, Saint Sansom and Saint Branwalader dates mainly from the 14th century. The abbey passed to Sir John Tregonwell after the Dissolution but the church was allowed to become a parish church. It was restored around 1790 by J Wyatt and in 1865 by Sir Gilbert Scott.
