A map of Manchester and Salford

A photographic copy of a 1772 plan of Manchester and Salford by J Fothergill. It shows the 2 towns with the River Irwell between, crossed by 2 bridges. It also shows how far the built up areas extend. The 3 most important buildings are illustrated and there is a key to other buildings including all of the churches. Note the compass showing where North is - early maps did not always have North at the top as a modern map would.
