SS9512 LOWMAN GREEN, Tiverton 848-1/6/224 (West side) Statue of King Edward VII on Lowman Bridge

GV II

Statue. 1912 by Harry Hems of Exeter. White marble statue on a granite pedestal. The king is shown standing, left foot slightly forward. He wears military uniform with a royal robe over his shoulders; his left-hand rests on a sword strapped round his waist and against his right arm he carries a sceptre. At the foot of the statue, on the front edge, is the signature HARRY HEMS. Square, tapered pedestal with scrolled diagonal buttresses, the whole standing on a low square plinth. On the front of the pedestal is carved EDWARD THE PEace maker 1841-1910, and below it PRESENTED BY THOMAS FORD ESQ JP TO HIS NATIVE TOWN.
