Lock up. Mid to late C19. English bond with stretchers of red brick and headers of blue brick; dressings of brick and stone (or possibly artificial stone), the latter now painted. Hipped roof with gablets of tile is now turnerised. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. 2-window range to Market Street and one-window range on the return to Brighton Place. High Victorian Gothic Style. The design is asymmetrically massed to take advantage of the prominent corner site. There is a simply rebated, pointed-arched entrance near the corner on the Brighton Place elevation. There is a segmental-arched entrance to the rear where the elevation steps down. The single window between the entrances is, like all the rest, is segmental arched with stone lintels and a pointed brick relieving arch; above is a gabled-half dormer. South-facing elevation to Market Place has a similar window near the corner, and, to the right, a narrower window of the same type; a gabled half dormer with 2 windows sharing a single relieving arch. At the party wall with No.48 (qv) is a brick buttress with a single stone setback. Simple brick plinth to both elevations. Eaves cornice comprised of 2 rows of bricks set edgewise. INTERIOR: not inspected.
