TQ3104SW CASTLE SQUARE 577-1/64/113 (South West side) 13/10/52 No.5 (Formerly Listed as: CASTLE SQUARE Nos.5-7 (Consecutive))


Terraced house. Late C18 or early C19. 3 storeys over basement. One-window range. Stucco. Roof parapeted. In the centre of the elevation, on the first floor, is a shallow segmental bay with tripartite windows roofed by a metal semidome; the side lights are separated from the centre by thin pilasters treated as fasces, a feature first used on Empire-style furnishings and commonly found on many C19 buildings in Brighton. All windows are flat arched. To either side of this bay and rising through the second floor are giant pilasters supporting a plain entablature topped by a pediment. To the left of this portico a short stretch of wall, full height, which extends to the party wall of No.4 Castle Square. Stacks to party wall. INTERIOR: not inspected. This forms a group with Nos 4, and 6-7 Castle Square (qv).
